SHAGBWisdomTree Yield Enhanced U.S. Short-Term Aggregate Bond Fund

In short

EVSD A 1992-vintage short-duration credit strategy wearing an ETF wrapper: it measures itself against the Bloomberg 1-5 Year U.S. Credit Index and can hold up to a quarter of assets in high yield, at below the typical cost in its bond peer group.

SHAG Short-duration bonds with a twist: SHAG follows an index that reshuffles the short-term investment-grade universe toward its higher-yielding corners, and charges 0.12% a year to do it.

Stated mandate

EVSD The proposed ETF was designed to have the same investment objective and a similar principal strategy as the predecessor short-duration income portfolio, while allowing up to 25% of net assets in high-yield debt instruments.

SHAG The fund seeks to follow, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Bloomberg U.S. Short Aggregate Enhanced Yield Index.

Why people hold it

  • EVSD Costs 0.24% a year against a 0.36% median for its aggregate-bond peer group.
  • Its yardstick is the Bloomberg 1-5 Year U.S. Credit Index, so the portfolio works the short end of the curve rather than the full maturity ladder.
  • Not a startup idea in a new box: the fund carries the objective and core approach of a predecessor short-duration income portfolio dating to 1992.
  • Pays monthly, and it is a billion-dollar-plus fund that sits in the upper half of a crowded bond cohort.
  • SHAG The whole idea in one line: an index built to reweight short-term investment-grade bonds toward the higher-yielding corners of that same universe, not just mirror the market's shape.
  • 0.12% a year, well under the typical fee in its bond-fund cohort.
  • Roughly 1,400 bonds and monthly distributions, so the yield tilt is spread across a wide book rather than a handful of names.
  • Short maturities by mandate, which means less interest-rate sensitivity than a full-maturity Agg fund carries.

Worth knowing

  • EVSD Up to 25% of net assets can go into high-yield debt, so credit risk sits alongside rate risk in the mix.
  • The index heavyweights in this cohort (BND, SPAB, SCHZ) charge 0.03%. You pay up here for the short-duration credit tilt.
  • Moderately traded rather than one of the busiest tickers on the tape, so spreads can widen when bond markets get choppy.
  • SHAG A small fund that trades thinly. Spreads can widen at the edges of the session, and small funds carry more closure risk than category giants.
  • Reaching for yield inside investment grade means leaning on its lower-rated, longer-dated slices, so it can behave differently from a plain short-term Agg tracker.
  • Core bond staples like BND and SCHZ run at 0.03%. The extra cost here buys the yield tilt and the short maturity profile, not broader market coverage.
