KRYPCProShares CoinDesk 20 Crypto ETF

In short

GDLC One ticker, five large liquid coins, market-cap weighted by the CoinDesk 5 Index. Grayscale's 2018-vintage basket predates the spot-crypto ETF crowd, and its fee now sits right at the middle of that pack.

KRYP Most crypto index funds stop at the big two or a short list of coins. KRYP tracks the CoinDesk 20, casting a wider net, and does it as a 1940 Act fund using crypto derivatives instead of holding the coins outright.

Stated mandate

GDLC The fund provides exposure to the market-cap-weighted performance of five large, liquid crypto assets, offering diversified access to the cryptocurrency market.

KRYP The Fund seeks to track the performance of the CoinDesk 20 Index before fees and expenses through a passive investment approach.

Why people hold it

  • GDLC Five large, liquid coins in a single market-cap-weighted basket tracking the CoinDesk 5 Index. No exchange accounts, no wallets, no seed phrases.
  • At 0.59% a year it lands at the median for multi-coin baskets, and far under the 2.50% Bitwise charges on BITW.
  • Running since 2018, one of the longest histories among multi-coin crypto funds, and it stands in the upper half of that group.
  • The mandate is literal: hold the index's five names at market-cap weight. No manager hunting the next winner.
  • KRYP Widest net in the basket aisle: a passive track of the CoinDesk 20 Index, reaching down to tokens that the 5- and 10-coin rivals (GDLC, BITW) never touch.
  • Built as a 1940 Act registered fund using crypto derivatives rather than a coin-holding trust, so it carries the disclosure and structure of a conventional fund.
  • At 0.58%, the fee lands right around the middle of the multi-coin index group, a fraction of what the priciest crypto basket funds charge.

Worth knowing

  • GDLC Trades lightly for its category, so spreads can run wider than the headline crypto funds. Limit orders earn their keep here.
  • Five coins at market-cap weight means the largest one carries most of the load. This is concentrated crypto exposure, and it moves like it.
  • Cheaper doors to the same basket idea exist: EZPZ at 0.00% and NCIQ at 0.25%. And there is no income here, only coin prices.
  • KRYP Small and lightly traded since its 2026 launch, so bid-ask spreads can be wide and more of your real cost shows up at the trade than in the fee.
  • Cheaper routes to a crypto index exist: Franklin's EZPZ and Hashdex's NCIQ both came to market at lower expense ratios.
  • Exposure runs through derivatives, not the coins themselves, so results can drift from the index, and there is only a short history to judge it on.
