HAKYCAmplify HACK Cybersecurity Covered Call ETF

XLEIBState Street Energy Select Sector SPDR Premium Income ETF

In short

HAKY A covered-call overlay pointed at a growth theme instead of a dividend sector. HAKY owns a cybersecurity basket built to mirror Amplify's cybersecurity ETF, then sells calls on it to turn the theme's volatility into monthly cash.

XLEI State Street's 1998-vintage energy sector fund, wrapped in a call-writing overlay. Same oil and gas majors, monthly income from selling options against them, minus some of the upside when crude runs.

Stated mandate

HAKY The Fund seeks to balance high income and capital appreciation through exposure to cybersecurity companies and a covered-call strategy.

XLEI The fund seeks current income while preserving prospects for long-term capital growth by investing in an energy-sector ETF and selling call options on it to generate additional premium income.

Why people hold it

  • HAKY The income engine runs on cybersecurity, not utilities or staples: calls are written against a growth-priced basket, where option premiums are typically richer than in defensive sectors.
  • The income policy is spelled out in the fund's own documents: monthly distributions, a stated target of 15% annualized gross option premium, and upfront disclosure that payouts can include return of capital.amplifyetfs.com
  • About 70 cybersecurity companies sit underneath, mirroring Amplify's cybersecurity ETF (HACK), inside a plain 1940 Act fund structure rather than a note or partnership.
  • XLEI Underlying is the original energy sector SPDR, trading since 1998: market-cap-weighted S&P 500 oil, gas and services names. No stock picking, just an overlay on a known quantity.stockanalysis.com
  • Pays monthly, and the mandate is written to seek income while preserving prospects for long-term growth rather than sell away all the upside.ssga.com
  • Calls are written on the sector ETF itself, not dozens of single stocks, so the overlay runs off one liquid options chain.ssga.com
  • The 0.35% fee sits right at the median for sector covered-call funds, and the build stands among the stronger ones in that peer group.

Worth knowing

  • HAKY At 0.65% a year, the fee runs roughly double the 0.35% charged by State Street's sector premium-income funds (XLVI, XLUI), so the overlay has more ground to make up.
  • Writing calls hands over part of any cybersecurity rally in exchange for premium, and distributions can include return of capital, which hands back your own principal and lowers NAV.
  • Launched in January 2026, it is still a small fund that trades lightly, which tends to mean wider bid-ask spreads. Limit orders earn their keep here.
  • XLEI Written calls cap the rally: above the strike, further gains go to the option buyer and the fund keeps the premium instead.ssga.com
  • One narrow sector, market-cap weighted, so the integrated majors dominate. Nothing inside cushions a broad crude selloff.stockanalysis.com
  • A 2025 launch, so there is no record through a full energy cycle yet, and it trades lightly next to the sector fund it holds.
