HAKYCAmplify HACK Cybersecurity Covered Call ETF

XLSIAState Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Premium Income ETF

In short

HAKY A covered-call overlay pointed at a growth theme instead of a dividend sector. HAKY owns a cybersecurity basket built to mirror Amplify's cybersecurity ETF, then sells calls on it to turn the theme's volatility into monthly cash.

XLSI Covered calls on the market's quietest aisle. XLSI owns the classic consumer staples sector fund and sells calls on it, turning soup, soap and razors into monthly income while giving up gains above the strike.

Stated mandate

HAKY The Fund seeks to balance high income and capital appreciation through exposure to cybersecurity companies and a covered-call strategy.

XLSI The fund uses an actively managed strategy intended to provide current income while preserving prospects for long-term capital growth. It invests in the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF and sells call options on that ETF to generate additional income.

Why people hold it

  • HAKY The income engine runs on cybersecurity, not utilities or staples: calls are written against a growth-priced basket, where option premiums are typically richer than in defensive sectors.
  • The income policy is spelled out in the fund's own documents: monthly distributions, a stated target of 15% annualized gross option premium, and upfront disclosure that payouts can include return of capital.amplifyetfs.com
  • About 70 cybersecurity companies sit underneath, mirroring Amplify's cybersecurity ETF (HACK), inside a plain 1940 Act fund structure rather than a note or partnership.
  • XLSI Simple plumbing: it holds shares of the staples Select Sector fund (XLP) and writes calls on that same ETF, so the equity sleeve is the plain sector basket, not a synthetic stand-in.ssga.com
  • 0.35% sits right at the median for its option-income sector cohort, the same sticker as siblings XLVI, XLUI and XLEI.
  • Pays monthly, and the call overlay is actively managed: a manager sets the strikes rather than following a fixed published formula.ssga.com
  • Sticks tightly to the mandate on the tin, and ranks among the stronger builds in its sector-overlay peer group.

Worth knowing

  • HAKY At 0.65% a year, the fee runs roughly double the 0.35% charged by State Street's sector premium-income funds (XLVI, XLUI), so the overlay has more ground to make up.
  • Writing calls hands over part of any cybersecurity rally in exchange for premium, and distributions can include return of capital, which hands back your own principal and lowers NAV.
  • Launched in January 2026, it is still a small fund that trades lightly, which tends to mean wider bid-ask spreads. Limit orders earn their keep here.
  • XLSI The calls cap the top end: gains above the strike on the underlying staples fund are traded away for premium.ssga.com
  • Option premiums rise and fall with volatility, so the monthly payout moves around. Income, not a coupon.
  • Launched in 2025 and small next to the giant option-income names, so the record is short and trading is light. Spreads can widen.
