Our read on each fund
VTESA
ZMUNC
In short
VTES Vanguard's muni ETF on a short leash: an AMT-free tax-exempt index, but capped at seven years to trim interest-rate sensitivity. Five basis points, roughly 2,700 bonds, income paid monthly.
ZMUN The first ETF built purely on callable munis, tracking an index F/m co-developed with Bloomberg. It buys investment-grade tax-exempt bonds already callable or callable within three months, which keeps the maturity clock very short.
Stated mandate
VTES The Fund seeks to track an index representing investment-grade U.S. municipal bonds with remaining maturities from one month through seven years.
ZMUN The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Bloomberg Municipal Bond Currently Callable Index. It uses a passive representative-sampling approach focused on U.S. tax-exempt investment-grade municipal bonds that are currently callable or callable within three months.
