Direxion Daily Mid Cap Bull 3X ETF

This fund multiplies its index's move each day and resets that multiple daily. Because daily returns compound, its long-run return can differ from the headline multiple.

Our read on MIDU

ETF.net Research

CAlmost every 3x equity fund points at mega caps or one hot sector. MIDU aims for 300% of the daily move of the S&P MidCap 400, the roughly 400 mid-sized US companies in between, and has done it since 2009.

Stated mandate

The fund seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, equal to 300% of the performance of the S&P Mid Cap 400 Index.

Why people hold it

  1. 01The middle of the market, geared: MIDU targets 300% of the daily move of the S&P MidCap 400, a slice most leveraged lineups skip in favor of mega caps and sectors.
  2. 02At 0.99%, it undercuts the typical leveraged-bull fund and runs close to the cheapest 3x names, like FAS at 0.92% and UDOW at 0.95%.
  3. 03Live since 2009, one of the original Direxion 3x funds, so the daily reset machinery has run through several full market cycles.
  4. 04Sits in the upper half of a crowded leveraged-bull group on cost, tradability and staying power.

Worth knowing

  1. 01The 3x target resets daily. Hold longer and results come from compounding day by day, so a choppy stretch can land far from 3x the index move over that span.
  2. 02Mid caps swing harder than mega caps, and 3x magnifies both directions. Drawdowns can be deep and fast.
  3. 03Smaller and thinner-traded than the marquee 3x funds, so spreads and limit orders matter more here than on the household-name tickers.

MIDU Risk

This fund targets a multiple of the daily move of its index and resets daily. Hold it longer than one reset and compounding makes the return diverge from that target. In choppy markets it can lose value even when the index ends flat.

How much the fund’s monthly returns vary, scaled to a year.
48.2%
Annualised · 36 months to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: standard deviation

The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.

vs 3-month T-bills · to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio

Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.

Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.

The largest fall from a peak to the low that followed.
−64.1%
