Our read on ODDS

ETF.net Research

CMost gaming ETFs stop at the console. ODDS also brings the house: a rules-based, global basket of roughly 50 companies earning their money from online gambling, video game development and esports.

Stated mandate

The fund is a rules-based ETF seeking exposure to globally listed companies and depositary receipts whose revenues are primarily generated by online gambling, video game development, or eSports.

Why people hold it

  1. 01The betting side is the differentiator. ESPO, HERO and NERD center on video games; ODDS puts online gambling operators in the same global basket.
  2. 02At 0.49%, it undercuts the 0.55% median fee in its gaming and esports peer group, and sits well below Invesco's GGME at 0.71%.
  3. 03Rules-based, not a stock picker's hunch. The BlueStar index wants revenue coming mainly from these businesses, and it looks worldwide, depositary receipts included.

Worth knowing

  1. 01One of the smaller, thinner-traded funds in this cohort, so bid-ask spreads show up in the cost of getting in and out.
  2. 02Roughly 50 stocks in a single theme. It moves with digital entertainment, not the broad market.
  3. 03Distributions come quarterly, but this is an equity theme basket rather than an income vehicle.
