BITQDBitwise Crypto Industry Innovators ETF

FDIGAFidelity Crypto Industry and Digital Payments ETF

In short

BITQ The crypto purist's stock basket. BITQ tracks a Bitwise-built index of about 30 companies, with most of the weight reserved for firms that earn the bulk of their revenue from crypto itself, not tech giants running a blockchain side project.

FDIG Crypto exposure through the companies, not the coins: roughly 50 miners, exchanges and digital payments processors, weighted by how heavily they trade rather than how big they are, in a Fidelity-built index priced below the thematic norm.

Stated mandate

BITQ The Fund seeks to track the total return of the Bitwise Crypto Innovators 30 Index before fees and expenses. The Index targets companies substantially connected to the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

FDIG The fund seeks to track the performance of the Fidelity Crypto Industry and Digital Payments Index before fees and expenses. It normally invests at least 80% of assets in equity securities or depositary receipts included in that index.

Why people hold it

  • BITQ Index rules reserve at least 85% of weight for pure-plays: companies with over 75% of revenue from crypto or 75% of net assets in crypto. Diversified megacaps get the leftovers.bitwiseinvestments.com
  • Built by a crypto-native shop. Bitwise designed the 30-stock index with Moorgate Benchmarks, and it rebalances quarterly as the industry's leaders shuffle.bitwiseinvestments.com
  • Trading since 2021, so it has lived through a full crypto drawdown and recovery in public view.
  • A plain 1940 Act ETF you buy in a brokerage account. No wallets, no keys, no exchange logins.bitqetf.com
  • FDIG Runs 0.39%, under the 0.56% median for global thematic funds. Cheap real estate in a corner of the market where niche fees usually bite.
  • Weights positions by trading volume rather than market cap, so the largest company in the group is not automatically the largest holding.fidelity.comfidelity.com 2
  • Two engines under one ticker: crypto miners and exchanges on one side, digital payments processors on the other, about 50 names in all.fidelity.com
  • Fidelity builds the index itself, screening on revenue plus text analysis of company disclosures, and rebalances quarterly over four days.fidelity.com

Worth knowing

  • BITQ The 0.85% fee sits above the category's middle. Global X's BKCH runs 0.50% and Amplify's BLOK 0.70% for broader blockchain baskets.
  • About 30 stocks in one industry, weighted toward exchanges and miners, so a single company's news can move the whole fund.
  • This owns crypto-linked company stock, not coins, so its path can look different from the assets those firms trade and mine.bitwiseinvestments.com
  • FDIG Non-diversified and industry-narrow. Fidelity's own documents flag bigger swings and meaningful exposure to a small number of issuers.fidelity.com
  • You own crypto-linked equities, not crypto. Miners and payment processors can respond to very different news on any given day.fidelity.com
  • Volume runs light next to the ETF giants, so spreads can widen and the market price can sit at a premium or discount to net asset value.fidelity.com
