Our read on each fund
CPRAC
RYLGA
In short
CPRA Small caps without the trapdoor. CPRA uses options on IWM to aim for zero downside across a one-year April-to-April period, and pays for it with a hard ceiling on gains that Calamos resets each spring.
RYLG Most small-cap income funds sell calls on the whole book. RYLG writes one-month at-the-money calls on about half of it, leaving the rest uncapped, and it charges the lowest fee in its Russell 2000 options-income group.
Stated mandate
CPRA The fund seeks to participate in the positive price return of the Russell 2000 up to a defined cap while protecting against all losses during a one-year outcome period, before fees and expenses.
RYLG The Fund seeks results generally corresponding to the Cboe Russell 2000 Half BuyWrite Index. It obtains Russell 2000 equity exposure and sells one-month at-the-money calls covering approximately half of the portfolio value.
