ERTHCInvesco MSCI Sustainable Future ETF

SDGBiShares MSCI Global Sustainable Development Goals ETF

In short

ERTH Born in 2006 as a cleantech fund, ERTH now tracks MSCI's six-theme environment index, from alternative energy to green building to sustainable water. Fee: 0.65% net of a waiver through August 31, 2028.

SDG A global stock fund built on one filter: does the business itself serve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals? About 120 companies worldwide, running since 2016, priced below the typical global thematic fund.

Stated mandate

ERTH The fund seeks to provide exposure to companies addressing multiple environmental-impact themes, including alternative energy, energy efficiency, green building, and sustainable water.

SDG The Fund seeks to track an index of global companies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Why people hold it

  • ERTH Six themes, not one: alternative energy, energy efficiency, green building, sustainable water, pollution prevention, and sustainable agriculture, across about 180 global names.invesco.com
  • The index takes only companies drawing 50% or more of revenue from those six themes, so you own the business itself, not a conglomerate's side project.msci.com
  • Trading since 2006, when it launched as the Invesco Cleantech ETF, it moved to the MSCI six-theme index in March 2021. Few climate funds carry that much history.invesco.com
  • SDG Charges 0.50% a year, under the median fee for global thematic funds in its peer group.
  • Holdings come from a published index, the MSCI ACWI Sustainable Development Index, rather than a manager's judgement call. The rulebook is public.ishares.com
  • About 120 names across global markets, concentrated enough that the theme actually shows up in the portfolio instead of getting diluted.
  • Live since 2016 on BlackRock's iShares platform, a long track record for a theme fund, and it sits in the upper half of its global thematic cohort.

Worth knowing

  • ERTH At 0.65% net of a waiver through August 31, 2028 (0.68% gross), it sits above the category median and well above peers like KLMT at 0.10% and IQSZ at 0.19%.
  • Thinly traded and modest in size, so the spread can cost more than the headline fee.
  • Our review places it in the lower half of its climate peer group, with cost and swings in price the main drags.
  • SDG Thinly traded, so spreads can run wider than on broad index funds and larger orders take more care to fill.
  • The SDG alignment screens leave out large chunks of the world market, so results can drift well away from a plain global index.ishares.com
  • Cheaper sustainability-tilted options share the cohort: Invesco's KLMT runs 0.10%.

ERTH vs SDG Holdings

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
