In short
FDM Micro-cap, but screened. FDM's index starts with the US total market and keeps only the tiny companies that clear size, liquidity and fundamental tests. Running since 2005, at 0.60% net of a waiver through April 30, 2027.
VTWO The Russell 2000 is the small-cap benchmark every headline quotes. VTWO is Vanguard's cheap seat on it: about 2,000 small US companies for 0.06% a year, a fraction of the fee on the best-known fund tracking the same index.
Stated mandate
FDM The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield of the Dow Jones Select Microcap Index.
VTWO The fund invests in stocks in the Russell 2000 Index and seeks to closely track that index's return, representing small-cap U.S. stock exposure.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
