IFLNBInvesco Bloomberg Enhanced Fallen Angels ETF

SCYBASchwab High Yield Bond ETF

In short

IFLN Junk bonds with a pedigree. IFLN tracks Bloomberg's enhanced fallen-angel index, owning high-yield corporate debt from issuers that were investment grade until the downgrade came, and it charges less than the typical high-yield ETF.

SCYB Three basis points for the broad US high-yield corporate market. Schwab undercuts a category where the typical fund charges more than ten times as much, spreading the bet across roughly 1,800 bonds and paying monthly.

Stated mandate

IFLN The Fund seeks exposure to the Bloomberg US High Yield Enhanced Fallen Angels Index, which represents U.S. dollar-denominated, non-investment-grade corporate bonds. The Fund uses sampling rather than purchasing every index security.

SCYB The fund follows a rules-based strategy intended to track the high-yield bond market, primarily through bonds in the Bloomberg Barclays US Corporate High Yield Total Return Index and similar derivatives.

Why people hold it

  • IFLN At 0.23% a year, it undercuts the median fee in its high-yield ETF cohort, which is unusual for a niche screen rather than a plain broad-market tracker.
  • Fallen angels are the whole point: bonds from issuers that lost investment-grade status, not borrowers that were never there. A different slice than a catch-all junk index.invesco.com
  • Monthly distributions, roughly 120 bonds, and a sampling approach instead of buying every index bond one-for-one, standard practice in a market where individual bonds trade thinly.
  • In a field of dozens of high-yield ETFs, it sits in the upper half on the mechanics you can actually control: fee, structure, and day-to-day tradability.
  • SCYB 0.03% a year against a category median of 0.40%. Even the cheap rivals sit above it: SPHY at 0.05%, USHY at 0.08%.
  • Tracks the same Bloomberg US Corporate High Yield index as BKHY, which charges 0.22%. Same map, cheaper toll.
  • Roughly 1,800 bonds, so no single issuer's blowup drives the outcome. Rules-based and passive, and it has hugged its index closely.
  • A multi-billion-dollar fund that trades actively and pays monthly, which matters in a corner of the market where getting out cheaply is half the job.

Worth knowing

  • IFLN Broad high-yield trackers such as SCYB (0.03%) and SPHY (0.05%) charge a fraction of this fee. The fallen-angel screen is what the extra basis points buy.
  • Roughly 120 bonds means single issuers carry real weight, and it is still non-investment-grade credit that moves with spreads and default worries.
  • The fund shell dates to 2007, but the fallen-angel mandate is recent, so long-run charts under this ticker reflect an older, different strategy.stockanalysis.com
  • SCYB High yield means below-investment-grade credit. These bonds behave more like stocks than Treasuries when the economy sours, and the extra income is the payment for that risk.
  • Launched in 2023, so it has a shorter record than rivals that have traded through more credit cycles.
  • The strategy can hold derivatives alongside the bonds themselves to track the index, one layer beyond plain bond ownership.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
