KROPCGlobal X AgTech & Food Innovation ETF

MOOBVanEck Agribusiness ETF

In short

KROP How the world feeds itself, in about 30 stocks. KROP tracks a Solactive index of global companies advancing agricultural technology and food innovation, at a 0.50% fee that sits under the typical global thematic ETF.

MOO The farm trade without the futures market. MOO holds a global basket of about 60 stocks spanning seed, fertilizer, tractors, livestock and aquaculture, and it has been tracking that theme since 2007.

Stated mandate

KROP KROP seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Solactive AgTech & Food Innovation Index. It invests at least 80% of assets in index securities or related depositary receipts and targets companies advancing agricultural technology and food innovation.

MOO The Fund seeks to closely track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the MVIS Global Agribusiness Index. It uses a passive indexing approach and generally replicates the Index with securities of agribusiness companies.

Why people hold it

  • KROP At least 80% of assets sit in index names, so you get the agtech and food innovation basket rather than a broad fund wearing a theme label.
  • The 0.50% expense ratio undercuts the median fee in its global thematic peer group.
  • The mandate is global, so the basket can reach farm tech and food science names listed outside the US.
  • Trading since July 2021, which gives it a multi-year operating history rather than a fresh launch.
  • MOO Covers the whole chain, not just fertilizer: agricultural inputs, equipment, production, aquaculture, livestock and crop trading all sit in the same index.vaneck.com
  • Global mandate, so European and emerging-market ag names are in scope alongside US farm giants.vaneck.com
  • Owns companies, not commodity futures. A plain 1940 Act stock fund means no roll schedule and no partnership tax paperwork.
  • The 0.56% expense ratio lands right at the median for global thematic funds, and it is one of the easier funds in that group to get in and out of.

Worth knowing

  • KROP About 30 holdings means individual names carry real weight, so one company's stumble moves the fund more than it would in a broad index.
  • Small asset base and light trading volume, which typically shows up as wider bid-ask spreads and more attention needed on order entry.
  • Distributions land once or twice a year, not monthly, so cash flow from the fund is lumpy by design.
  • MOO About 60 stocks in one theme. A handful of large seed, fertilizer and machinery names steer the fund, and farm capex cycles steer them.
  • Broad global thematic index funds such as KLMT charge a fraction of 0.56%, though they buy the whole market rather than the food chain.
  • Cash comes back once or twice a year, not monthly.
