REXCDSprott Rare Earths Ex-China ETF

In short

REMX The original rare earths ETF. Trading since 2010, it holds roughly 30 miners, refiners and recyclers of the metals behind magnets, EV motors and defense hardware, in one concentrated global basket priced under most of its critical-materials rivals.

REXC Rare earths, with China screened out. REXC tracks a Nasdaq index built around rare earth miners and processors outside China, the focused cut of Sprott's critical-materials lineup.

Stated mandate

REMX The fund seeks global exposure to companies involved in producing, refining, and recycling rare earth and strategic metals and minerals, while tracking the MVIS Global Rare Earth/Strategic Metals Index before fees and expenses.

REXC The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the total return of the Nasdaq Sprott Rare Earths Ex-China Index.

Why people hold it

  • REMX Launched in 2010, it is the elder statesman of rare earth funds, and its mandate spans producers, refiners and recyclers worldwide rather than one link in the chain.
  • Fee of 0.53% a year undercuts Global X's EART (0.59%) and Sprott's SETM (0.65%), and sits below the median for its critical-materials peer group.
  • A multi-billion-dollar fund that trades actively, which matters in a corner of the market where the underlying stocks are thin.
  • Rules-based, not discretionary: the basket follows the MVIS Global Rare Earth/Strategic Metals Index, so holdings are set by published index rules.
  • REXC The screen is the whole idea: it tracks the Nasdaq Sprott Rare Earths Ex-China Index, making it a direct expression of the non-China supply chain rather than the sector at large.
  • Plain plumbing. A standard 1940 Act index fund following a published Nasdaq benchmark: no leverage, no derivatives overlay, no active stock picking.
  • Built by a metals-and-mining specialist house. REXC is the narrow rare earths cut of the same shelf that holds Sprott's broader critical materials fund, SETM.

Worth knowing

  • REMX About 30 holdings means one company's news can move the whole fund. This is a focused bet on a single supply chain, not a diversified materials sleeve.
  • Mining and refining shares move with commodity prices, so swings here run deeper and faster than in a broad equity fund.
  • Distributions arrive annually or semiannually, so cash flow is lumpy rather than a steady drip.
  • REXC The fee is 0.65% a year, matching the typical critical-materials fund, while wider-net rare earth peers REMX and EART list lower expense ratios.
  • Launched in 2026, so there is only a short record to judge how tightly it follows its index or how it trades under stress.
  • Rare earths is a narrow, policy-driven corner of mining, and the ex-China rule shrinks the pool further, so a few names and jurisdictions can drive the ride.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
