In short

AOTG Most growth funds buy "tech." AOTG buys an economic trait: businesses that can sell the next unit for almost nothing. A concentrated, actively run book built on low marginal cost, growth and quality screens.

GUSE Goldman's fundamental stock pickers hunting long-term growth in US companies, for 0.30% a year. The strategy dates to 2008 and charges well under the typical active US growth fund.

Stated mandate

AOTG The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation through active investment in U.S.-listed equities with high growth potential, emphasizing companies whose low marginal-cost business models can support expanding profits and growth.

GUSE The Fund seeks long-term growth of capital by investing in companies that the Investment Adviser believes are positioned for long-term growth.

Why people hold it

  • AOTG The filter is an economics test, not a sector label: companies that can deliver more goods or services without materially raising their costs.sec.gov
  • Genuinely active, not a closet index. A boutique specialist recommends the names and the adviser places the trades, inside a plain 1940 Act ETF wrapper.sec.gov
  • A focused book rather than a sprawling index, so the manager's best ideas actually move the needle.
  • GUSE Charges 0.30% a year, against a 0.54% median for its active US growth cohort. Cheap, for stock picking.
  • Actively run with no index to shadow. Managers hold companies they judge positioned for long-term growth, so the portfolio can look different from a large-cap benchmark.
  • Inception dates to 2008, so the strategy has run through multiple market cycles, not one long rally.
  • One of the stronger implementations in a crowded field of active US growth funds.

Worth knowing

  • AOTG Fees run 0.75% a year against a 0.54% peer median, and several top-ranked rivals in the group (JUSA at 0.12%, FELG at 0.18%) cost a fraction of that.
  • Small and thinly traded next to the giants of its category, so spreads can be wider. Limit orders matter more here than on a megafund.
  • A capital-appreciation mandate with no payouts in the last year, and concentration cuts both ways: a few names drive the outcome.
  • GUSE Trades thinly next to the category's heavyweights. Spreads can be wider, which bites most on large or hurried orders.
  • Two peers in the same top tier undercut it on fee: JUSA at 0.12% and FELG at 0.18%. Price is not where this one stands out.
  • Distributions land once or twice a year, not monthly. Growth of capital is the stated goal, not an income stream.
