Our read on each fund

In short
COAL Coal, and only coal. Most energy ETFs blend oil, gas and pipelines; this 2024 launch tracks a global coal index instead, giving the fuel its own line item.
XES Oilfield services without the two giants calling the shots. XES tracks a modified equal-weight index of about 30 drillers and equipment makers, so mid- and small-caps carry real weight, and it has been doing that since 2006 at 0.35%.
Stated mandate
COAL The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the total return of the Range Global Coal Index.
XES The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the total return performance of the S&P Oil & Gas Equipment & Services Select Industry Index.

Worth knowing
COAL vs XES Holdings
How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
