TLGCTouchstone Large Company Growth ETF

In short

GUSE Goldman's fundamental stock pickers hunting long-term growth in US companies, for 0.30% a year. The strategy dates to 2008 and charges well under the typical active US growth fund.

TLG A 25-to-35 stock growth portfolio run by DSM Capital Partners since 2009, now in an ETF shell. Conviction over coverage: the Russell 1000 Growth Index is the yardstick, not the blueprint.

Stated mandate

GUSE The Fund seeks long-term growth of capital by investing in companies that the Investment Adviser believes are positioned for long-term growth.

TLG The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It invests at least 80% of its net assets in equity securities of large-capitalization issuers, using a bottom-up, idea-driven growth approach with a long-term investment horizon.

Why people hold it

  • GUSE Charges 0.30% a year, against a 0.54% median for its active US growth cohort. Cheap, for stock picking.
  • Actively run with no index to shadow. Managers hold companies they judge positioned for long-term growth, so the portfolio can look different from a large-cap benchmark.
  • Inception dates to 2008, so the strategy has run through multiple market cycles, not one long rally.
  • One of the stronger implementations in a crowded field of active US growth funds.
  • TLG Built to be concentrated: the portfolio generally holds 25 to 35 stocks, so the manager's best ideas carry real weight.westernsouthern.com
  • Same adviser, same sub-adviser, same strategy as the predecessor mutual fund, with a track record running back to the 2009 inception.westernsouthern.com
  • DSM Capital Partners, founded in 2001 and employee-owned, specializes in concentrated growth and picks bottom-up on fundamentals and profitability.westernsouthern.com
  • Up to 20% can sit in foreign names, including ADRs and emerging markets, so a good idea listed abroad is not off the table.westernsouthern.com

Worth knowing

  • GUSE Trades thinly next to the category's heavyweights. Spreads can be wider, which bites most on large or hurried orders.
  • Two peers in the same top tier undercut it on fee: JUSA at 0.12% and FELG at 0.18%. Price is not where this one stands out.
  • Distributions land once or twice a year, not monthly. Growth of capital is the stated goal, not an income stream.
  • TLG Fee is 0.67% net of a waiver through April 29, 2027 (0.82% gross), above the category median; same-benchmark peers like LGDS at 0.40% charge less.
  • Non-diversified by charter: one position can grow into a large slice of the fund, which cuts both ways.westernsouthern.com
  • Seasoned strategy, new ETF wrapper, and it trades thinly, so spreads can be wider than at the category's heavyweights.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
