Our read on each fund
MSOSD
WEEDB
In short
MSOS Most cannabis ETFs are really Canadian grower funds. MSOS flips that: an actively managed, US-only book of plant-touching operators, using derivatives where owning the shares outright gets awkward.
WEED The cannabis fund that launched on 4/20 and undercuts its whole category on fee: 0.41% a year against a cohort median of 0.91%. Exposure to US multi-state operators runs mostly through total return swaps, not direct share ownership.
Stated mandate
MSOS The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It is actively managed and normally invests at least 80% of net assets plus investment borrowings in securities of U.S. marijuana and hemp companies meeting the stated revenue test, and in similar derivatives.
WEED The Fund seeks capital growth through investments primarily in exchange-listed equity securities and total return swaps that provide exposure to the cannabis and hemp ecosystem.
