TEXUDDirexion Daily Energy Top 5 Bull 2X ETF

In short

ROM The original 2x tech trade. Since 2007, ROM has aimed at twice the daily move of the S&P 500's technology sector: a double dose in a category now stacked with triples.

TEXU Direxion's Titans line sits between a broad sector bet and a single stock: TEXU aims for 200% of the daily move of an equal-weighted index of the five largest S&P 500 energy names. It resets every day.

Stated mandate

ROM ROM seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, corresponding to twice the daily performance of the S&P Technology Select Sector SM Index.

TEXU The fund seeks daily investment results equal to 200% of the performance of the S&P 500 Energy (Sector) Top 5 Equal Capped Index, before fees and expenses.

Why people hold it

  • ROM Two times, not three. A 2x daily target means smaller swings and less compounding drag than a 3x fund chasing the same sector.sec.gov
  • Live since January 2007, so it has run through the 2008 crash and the full tech cycle since. Long mileage is rare in geared funds.
  • 0.93% a year, flat, with no waiver propping it up. Peer QLD runs 0.89%, but only net of a waiver through September 30, 2027.
  • One of the strongest implementations in the leveraged-bull pack, from an issuer that has run geared funds since the category's early days.proshares.com
  • TEXU Concentrated, but spread across five names: the index holds the top five S&P 500 energy companies at equal weight with caps, so no one ticker runs the whole basket.direxion.comdirexion.com 2
  • Fee of 0.98% net of a waiver through September 1, 2027 (gross 8.25%), near the leveraged-bull median and close to long-running peers ROM and UYG at 0.93%.
  • Direxion states the mechanics plainly: 200% of the index for a single day, with no expectation of twice the index return over longer stretches. The index and multiple are named in the fund's own fact sheet.direxion.com

Worth knowing

  • ROM The 2x target resets at each close, so results over weeks or months depend on the path the sector takes, not just where it ends up.sec.govproshares.com
  • Trades thinner than the category's headline names, so spreads and limit orders matter, especially in size.
  • About 80 tech names from the S&P 500. That is one concentrated sector bet, doubled, in both directions.
  • TEXU The daily reset means compounding. Over several choppy days in energy, the result can land well away from twice the index move, in either direction.direxion.com
  • A 2025 launch that is still small and thinly traded next to the category's veterans, which can mean wider spreads at the moment you trade.
  • That 0.98% rides on a contractual waiver; the gross expense ratio is 8.25%, so the cost picture leans on the waiver currently set to run through September 1, 2027.
