FMQQDFMQQ The Next Frontier Internet ETF

IBUYBAmplify Online Retail ETF

In short

FMQQ Most e-commerce ETFs stick to familiar markets. FMQQ points the other way: a passive basket of roughly 50 internet and online-commerce companies drawn from emerging and frontier markets, launched in 2021.

IBUY The original online-retail bet. Since 2016, IBUY has tracked a global index of roughly 80 companies whose business is selling over the internet, rather than a US-only slice of the e-commerce theme.

Stated mandate

FMQQ The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the FMQQ The Next Frontier Internet & Ecommerce Index.

IBUY The fund seeks investment results that generally correspond, before fees and expenses, to the price and yield of the EQM Online Retail Index.

Why people hold it

  • FMQQ A different map. The index reaches into emerging and frontier markets for internet and e-commerce businesses instead of the usual developed-market roster.
  • Rules-based, not gut-based: it passively tracks the FMQQ The Next Frontier Internet & Ecommerce Index, so the lineup follows published index rules.
  • Roughly 50 stocks, so the theme comes through undiluted rather than spread thin across hundreds of names.
  • IBUY One of the first funds built purely around online retail, running since 2016. It has a track record through a full boom-and-bust cycle in the theme.
  • Global mandate, roughly 80 names. You get overseas marketplaces alongside US sellers instead of a handful of domestic mega-caps.amplifyetfs.com
  • Tight fit to the label: it follows the EQM Online Retail Index and lands in the upper half of ETF.net's e-commerce peer group.amplifyetfs.com

Worth knowing

  • FMQQ Costs more than the neighborhood: 0.86% a year, against a 0.65% cohort median and cheaper builds like EBIZ at 0.50% and OGIG at 0.48%.
  • Small fund, light volume. Spreads can run wider here than in the category's heavyweights, which makes limit orders the sane default.
  • Frontier and emerging listings layer currency moves, local regulation and thinner disclosure onto an already narrow single-theme basket.
  • IBUY 0.65% a year sits at the middle of the e-commerce pack and above cheaper rivals like ONLN (0.58%) and EBIZ (0.50%).
  • A smaller, lightly traded fund. Spreads can be wider than the category's giants, so the price you see may not be the price you get on big orders.
  • One narrow theme, and income is not the point: distributions come at most a couple of times a year.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
