GDEBWisdomTree Efficient Gold Plus Equity Strategy Fund

RPARCRPAR Risk Parity ETF

In short

GDE Gold and US large caps, stacked on the same dollar. GDE holds roughly 500 US large-cap stocks and layers gold futures on top, so the metal rides along instead of crowding equities out of the portfolio.

RPAR Most allocation funds split dollars between stocks and bonds. RPAR splits risk: an equal share to global stocks, long-dated TIPS, Treasuries and commodities including gold. It arrived in 2019 as the first US ETF built around risk parity.

Stated mandate

GDE The fund seeks total return by investing directly or through a wholly owned subsidiary in U.S.-listed gold futures contracts and U.S. large-cap equity securities.

RPAR The Fund seeks positive returns during economic growth, capital preservation during contraction, and preservation of real returns during heightened inflation.

Why people hold it

  • GDE The capital-efficiency trick: gold futures sit on top of a US large-cap stock sleeve, so making room for the metal doesn't mean selling down equities.
  • 0.20% a year, a fraction of the typical multi-asset allocation fund's fee, and priced level with WisdomTree's Treasury-stacking sibling NTSX.
  • Trades easily for a strategy this unusual, and it has been running live since 2022 rather than arriving as a fresh backtest.
  • Rare shape in the allocation aisle: most peers blend stocks and bonds, this one blends stocks and gold, and it grades near the top of that group.
  • RPAR Balances by risk, not dollars. The index targets a 25% risk share for each of four asset classes, so low-volatility long-term TIPS carry a bigger dollar weight than stocks.sec.gov
  • The stated objective covers three economic weather patterns: gains in growth, capital preservation in contraction, and real returns intact when inflation runs hot.sec.gov
  • A 0.52% expense ratio, below the median for multi-asset allocation funds, and it stands in the upper half of that large, crowded cohort.
  • Rules over hunches. The adviser trades to reflect the index's quarterly rebalance rather than picking what looks attractive that week.sec.gov

Worth knowing

  • GDE Stacking works both ways. Two exposures riding one dollar means declines can bite harder than a plain US large-cap fund, and it scores as the riskier end of its cohort.
  • Gold comes through futures held in a wholly owned subsidiary, which brings roll and collateral mechanics you don't get with a plain bullion holding.
  • Distributions arrive annually or semiannually, so this is a total-return build rather than an income stream.
  • RPAR The Treasury sleeve runs through futures collateralized by T-bills, so notional Treasury exposure exceeds the cash weight. That built-in leverage magnifies moves both ways.sec.gov
  • The TIPS target is 15+ year maturities, the most rate-sensitive corner of the inflation-linked market.sec.gov
  • Thinly traded next to the category's giants, so spreads and order type matter more here than with a mega-fund.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
